Jobs are like buses

Image
This is my Grand-kitten helping my hubby to work. Not sure she passed her probation. So I started my new job yesterday, and not the one you know about. Last week I got an unexpected call asking me to an interview the following day. I went and I was offered a job. It's over 3 days working in the restaurant of a local garden centre. This means that I can still do the original job I was offered a few weeks ago. (Admin for a residential home). Two jobs? Who knew. Today went well but I came home a little bit pooped. Straight into a hot bath that has never felt so good! Was I the oldest of the front of house staff? Most definitely. But I'm not that old! And surely I can only get fitter and better. The other staff were really nice and that is half the battle. And I get half price food when I'm on shift (the cakes look amazing…notice I said look and not taste 😃). I might have been stood  on my feet all shift but I didn't do my steps! I have to say my legs weren't really ...

Weight loss

Image
I am pleased to announce that I am I just 1lb away from losing my first stone. Weigh day is not until Sunday, officially, so I might just get there by then. George's mum has been weighing me weekly, and doing my blood pressure for me too. Whilst I am a huge advocate of daily weighing I believe this is truly only important in the maintenance phase. It can be counter productive during the 'hopefully I've lost a pound over night and I'll cry if I haven't' phase. This is because if I have lost a pound overnight, and maybe I had a biscuit the day before, and still lost the lb I'll then think I can eat more biscuits and lose weight but of course it all goes to pot and I eat the packet. OR. I've gained a lb overnight and I cry and I'm fed up and I just want to jack it all in and eat a packet of biscuits. Either way, whether it's a good or bad weigh-in a packet of biscuits will be involved with a bad outcome. So I had the bright idea that if I didn...

Another day, another hill.

Image
We're having a night at Pittodrie House at the base of Bennachie (ben-a-he). It's not a Munro but it is a ruddy big hill. I've hiked to the summit (Mither Tap) a few times, it's tough (for me) and I don't really enjoy it so I declined today (Thursday). Instead we parked at the back o' Bennachie for a forest walk. Forest walk my arse! It's through a forest (partly) I'll agree, but it's really just another (longer route) to Mither Tap! All walks were classed as 'strenuous' - great! - but off we went. I still wasn't interested in the summit but we did go to the Oxen Craig quarry. I survived and enjoyed the walk back down hill. Hubby was unusually patient with me (I stop a lot) but he didn't complain. Libby loved it, and must have ran easily 3 times more than us. She found muddy puddles and lots of streams. She was very happy. Hubby was happy (he likes hiking up big things). The path was made of big rocks to make steps. On the way down ...

Discombobulated

Image
Libby has been confused this week. First we took all the furniture out of the living room. Then we covered the carpet in sticky back plastic - a bit like a giant roll of sellotape. It was comical trying to lay it. And all in the name of decorating! Hubby just loves decorating. I heard him humming all day 'fuck it, fuck off, I Fucking hate decorating!' He'd sing this all day long. So happy! I can't show you pictures as it's not finished yet. Our plans were fluid. As we progressed the more we changed our minds!  This beautiful baby is my new great niece, Órfhlaith. It's Irish and pronounced Orla. I thought I'd picked difficult names with my children - Eleanor and Isaac. I've certainly had some weird spellings over the years! But can you imagine Órfhlaith when she's about 3, trying to spell her name and writing it on Christmas cards. I'm sure she'll love it when she's older though. I can't believe Libby has reached week 14! She's d...
