Bumblebee

Yesterday afternoon we had Bumblebee put to sleep. He was almost 16 years old which is good for a cat. The last couple of years he'd been getting a bit rusty and creaky. And the last couple of days saw a big deterioration. This morning he hadn't really moved and hadn't eaten anything. He even turned his nose up to a piece of beef. The decision was made and the vet called. It was so very sad, he was a lovely cat and a great mouser in his day! At about 2pm I heard a crash and found him on the floor next to his bed. I actually thought he'd died, but he was still breathing. I think he'd tried to get up and his legs had given way, and he'd just fallen onto the floor. So I popped him onto my knees and he lay quietly until it was time to go. The hardest thing is knowing exactly how long you have left with them. Just 2 hours of cuddles and that's it, it's over forever. So many memories of Libby only a few weeks ago. It was even the same vet. Obviously, I can't compare my relationship with Bumblebee as with Libby. Bumblebee was, as a cat, very independent. Slept all day and went out hunting at night. He sometimes came to me for a stroke but not often. He had a good life and may be rest in peace!

We're watching Hamish McBeth at the moment. Yes the series from the 90s starring Robert Carlyle and Jock the westie. Isaac rarely watches TV. In fact there only 2 things he watches - Death in Paradise and Taskmaster (though we are also watching the Death in Paradise spin off, Beyond Paradise - which is really good). But my mum sent him some Hamish McBeth books (a light reprieve from studying) so he agreed to watch the TV programme with us. So nice to spend time together (otherwise he's just in his room). We're loving it. It's weird and funny and the scenery is gorgeous! Isaac loves the fashion lol.

The picture of Bumblebee curled up so tight he looks like a hat.

Cats have it all: love, endless sleep and company only when they want.
