Golden leaves
When my boss gave me time off work to sort my head it didn't occur to me that I might not go back. I've spent these last few weeks catching up with me, Gilly. Seeing family and friends in Newcastle and catching up with friends up here. I've started baking again - those apples are the first off the tree and went into a crumble and toffee apple pudding. I've been writing (fingers crossed Prima magazine like them) and creating my art (photo to come). I'm feeling great and recovered. I did the whole pros and cons about working in the restaurant. Great girls, fun job, good exercise. But I do feel like a fish out of water. I'm not a natural for sure. However, I can't be in the house too long without my mental health suffering. I need to be busy! The odd day watching This Morning is ok but not recommended long term. I need to get the balance right, for me and my family. I popped to see my boss yesterday and we have agreed one shift a week to see how things go. It'll either make me happy or it won't. (Though I must confess that when we were chatting I knocked my coffee over and it went everywhere! Gilly was back! An omen?) I know it's only a job but it forms part of my life.
This week's daftest thing? Ellie and I took Libby for a long walk and got caught in the rain. I didn't have a coat on! (This isn't the daftest thing). Got home and had a hot bubble bath - and dropped my phone in the bath (this isn't it) and it isn't the first time I've done this. Apparently I never learn. SIM card was put into an old phone whilst my handset was in the airing cupboard. Next morning I couldn't find my phone (old one). I always put my book, specs and phone in my bedside pouch. Phone not there. Mark was sleeping off nightshift and twice I crept around the bedroom looking everywhere. I'm lost without my phone! Nope it was nowhere. At 11am I heard Mark walking in the bedroom, open the door and shouted (very grumpily) 'your phone!' I'd missed a call, it had woken him and he found my phone. Apparently it was in our bed. I must have slept with it all night. And yes this is the daftest thing I did this week. Mark says my next phone will be a Fisher Price one.
When you are writing the story of your life, don't let anyone else hold the pen.
I thought it would be nice and pertinent to do my job description today.
Title - Front of House
What do I do - everything, make coffees, serve food, take orders, clear and clean tables, operate till. Also - spill milk, drop eggs, flip cream cakes!
Best bits - the other staff are lovely, and I quite like making a cappuccino.
Worst bits - when we're really quiet trying to find something to do. I've cleaned the skirting boards more times than I have at home!
Surprising - the amount of side salad and coleslaw not eaten that goes in the bin.
Anecdote - my favourite is the adjusting of the wrong table I told you about a few weeks ago. I did tease Caitlin about getting chatted up by a customer. Turns out it was her dad! Oops.
