Don't say no
I'm a very lucky lady and I appreciate it. My husband gives me nearly everything I'd like and rarely says no. When he does say no I usually respect it. Hot tub? No, Great Dane called Alfred? No, Great Dane called anything? No, Porsche? He thought long and hard about this one before saying No. When I was in Newcastle I just happened to be in Next Furniture and I sat on this amazing over sized 'Snuggle Chaise' armchair. OMG how comfy was this. Best thing in the world. I promptly sent Mark the photo announcing that I would be buying one, once I had decided what colour. His response was to ask if it was replacing my bed?! Funny! Now, we are going to be redecorating the living room next, and replacing the sofas was always on the cards. But when I told Mark that I was absolutely going to buy this Snuggle Chaise he started to use words like too big, won't fit, look ridiculous, a hint of No? At this point I would have just bought it and he could suck it! I waited with baited breathe when I drove home from Newcastle. Anyway we measured and measured and the man from Del Monte, he said yes!! Better to be lucky than good.
What a difference a week makes. Isaac got the job in Asda and resigned from his fish factory job. He is happy (Ellie described him as having an adorable little spring in his step). And Ellie has been accepted to do a Masters degree in psychology at Dundee. It's part-time learning over 2 years so she's hoping to keep her current job but we'll see. And she's happy. And all of this makes Mummy Bear happy. I'm doing ok. Feeling much better though I still have moments of spontaneous tears without really knowing what triggered them. I'm just delicate I guess. It's keeping Mark on his toes. (And no, trust me, this has nothing to do with him letting me get my chair. I would never use tears to get my own way and Mark would certainly never let me... Unless it was over the last chocolate in the box. He would give it to me if I pulled a pet lip - and then I would half it.)
Last Sunday was family theme night - Thai. Ellie did Sabia Sabia, a Thai rum with lime juice and soda. I did peanut and sweet chilli chicken in lettuce wraps. Isaac did red Thai curry. Mark did sticky coconut rice with fresh mango. It was all absolutely delicious. This weekend is Italian and I'm in mains. Whoop whoop. Where's the pizza cutter?
Don't be afraid to fail. It's a rehearsal to winning.
Today it's Mark's turn (only person around)
Formal title - Directional Drilling Supervisor
What do you do - watch people drilling wells, checking they drill in the right direction and don't collide with other wells. Ensure they don't break the tools and check tools are programmed properly. And make sure they are drilling to the right plans. And help if they have problems. And especially being sarcastic if they are being thick.
Best thing - working from home
Worst thing - it's either super quiet or its flat out with everyone doing everything all at the same time. No middle.
Anything surprising? - when I was in Greenland it cost the oil company $1 million every day to explore for oil.
Anecdote?- I had a disciplinary for my sarcasm and I tied the manager up in knots and he got into trouble for not following correct procedures and my disciplinary had no further action. All the while Gilly was in the office waiting as we were just about to fly off on holiday. That was a good day.
