I have the power!
Storm Arwen took out our electric at 5pm Friday! It finally came back about 11pm Sunday night. Better than some friends and colleagues. In fact one of hubby's work mates is still without power today. We were lucky, we have a log fire and an oil fired Aga. I also have lots of candles. Even the food in the freezer survived. We just kept it closed the whole time and it's in a very cold garage - so happy it wasn't the middle of summer. I got used to reading by torch light. And having a pee in a very cold bathroom, and my pee turning to icicles as I went (that's not true). The house alarm started to go off when the back up battery died. So hubby connected an old car battery. It worked though lol.
My main worry was that electric wouldn't be back on in time for us leaving to go on our annual Christmas holiday on the Monday morning. I was feeling uneasy leaving the house that way. But luck would have it it returned just in time. Only for the forest lodges to call me as we packed the car to say they had a power failure and we couldn't go! I was floored. This was Libby's last holiday. We could take a refund or reschedule, or delay it (hopefully) by one day. That's what we did and it worked. Holidays commenced Tuesday morning. And the company had prosecco, warm mince pies and chocolates waiting when we arrived. Very nice. The hot tub is hot and the mulled wine is warm. Libby is nervous but she's just loving swimming in the loch at every opportunity we give her. 5am the other morning she got hubby up for a pee/swim lol.
As you'll be aware the storm caused lots of trees to fall, with some loss of life. So sad. These trees in Callander (where we are staying) were just unbelievable. The uprooted trees took up half the road! Never seen anything like it. The picture above isn't even the worst one! Literally half the road was missing!
We had brunch out on Monday morning. As we were leaving I had a bit of coffee left. I grabbed it to finish off but unfortunately my mouth was about 3 inches away from the mug. To the casual observer it appeared that I picked my mug up and just threw coffee all over my face and top! I was covered in coffee. Hubby thought this was hilarious, though very typically me! I didn't look to see if anyone else had noticed. I hot footed it out the place!
I'm so good at sleeping I can do it with my eyes closed.
