The care label
I finally met my new great niece when I popped to Newcastle. And she is just a darling. I honestly could have just eaten her! When I arrived my niece and her partner went for a sleep as they had left in the middle of the night when he had finished night shift. Baby Ó was so happy, until she wasn't. She started to cry so I did the usual - put her over my shoulder, rocked her, shuggeled her up and down, tried to remove her batteries. I thought 'I'm a mother of two, I've got this'. I looked for a care label or a list of instructions but found nothing. Then me and my mum (mother of 3, grandmother of 8 and great grandmother to 2) decided that she might be hungry. We found a bottle of water. Baby Ó was keen, until she realised it was just water! Then I found a pre-measured container with formula and another water bottle. Bingo! Milk was made. And this went down a lot better. Even cold, which surprised Great grandma. Baby happy again. Success! I had not lost my touch. I was even going to change her nappy... When I heard footsteps on the stairs and decided that her mum could do it. Good decision as it was dirty! Of course I told my niece of the successful feed. Only to be told that - babies aren't allowed to drink just water nowadays (yes, really. I googled it too), she should have had gaviscon added to the bottle and there is a little hole on the teat that should have been facing up! Who knew? The only thing I did right was not warm the milk first. The one thing I thought I'd done wrong!
I've started the rest of my Christmas shopping. Successfully got 6 gifts, and that's just for me! I would tell you what they were but then they wouldn't be a surprise... For my husband who paid for them lol. I've also started to get the essentials in. The tins of Roses and bottles of Bailey's. Ah, Christmas is a joy!
Quick update on Libby. Her bottom is looking very twisted but she's still having the best life and has no problems with the tumour. I count my blessings every day to still have her.
You only have one life. But if you do it right, one is enough.
The picture is baby Ó with her big sister. Her expression is suitably scared for Halloween.
