I can do that!
This week I made brookies (see the picture) which are brownies wrapped in cookies. And mine had added mars bar too. I saw them whilst watching Ainsley Harriot on TV, and I thought I can make these. So I did. And quite successfully too. Though I'm not always successful when I see things I can copy. My daughter's Christening cake I copied from a magazine. It was made to look like a cradle - mine not so much! But it's not just food things I copy. I was once in an art gallery and saw pictures that were made with 3D clay people climbing over the canvas. They were selling for hundreds of pounds! I thought, I can do that. So I did. And then I made another, then another and quite a few in the end. But, like everyone else I've seen paintings that look like a toddler has painted them - you know the ones? Just colour thrown everywhere. However, believe it or not, my attempt was terrible! It was not as easy as I thought lol. Well there you go, who knew.
I also rope other people into my plagiarism (I am referring to hubby). In a gift shop I saw a lovely Christmas decoration, of a wooden reindeer head that just hung on the wall with rope. Very plain and all about the lovely wood. I describe it to my husband and said 'you can make that'. He did, and it's really good! He also made wooden gold letters that spell NOEL for the mantle.
Last year I made a wreath made of old scraps of fabric like I'd seen in a shop. It was ok but it wasn't as good as the one I saw. I'm never put off though. I keep trying, taking it all in my stride. My next endeavour will be art work made of square bits of wood, painted all colours, some with gold leaf, formed into a picture but with some of the squares in one corner coming away from the main structure as if they are falling off. I just need to decide which room will have this masterpiece, so I know what colours to use. Exciting isn't it?
You can't predict the wind but you can adjust the sails.
PS it's catching. Hubby saw a stool made of animal skin. So he bought a cow hide and used it to cover my ottoman/stool thing. And it had nothing to do with me!
The cakes look afa fine Gilly x
